Sunday Inspiration {10/30}

Sunday, October 30, 2011

Today's inspiration comes from
Why do people blame God?
by Lynnette Kraft:

"People wonder why God allows bad things to happen to them and to others. The real question is, would we ever really experience God if nothing bad ever happened to us? When things are going well, we pretty much think, I got this! Don’t we? It’s usually not until we realize we don’t got this, that we seek God. When we run out of earthly resources, that’s when we get desperate. God is the only hope in this world. He is the only source of absolutes. He is the only constant… anything. We often only discover those beautiful attributes of God when we realize that there is nothing truly good but God. We often experience God most intimately when we suffer. It’s when we lose hope that we seek to find it."

We have been through so much in our lives from deaths in the family to Cheryl's son being diagnosed with cancer. It is so easy to fall into the trap of asking God "why?", of being hurt and/or angry at God. Christians and Non-Christians alike often ask "where is God when bad things happen?" and I am never quite sure how to answer that question. I really like the perspective that Lynette, someone who has suffered so much yet still finds joy has given - "It’s when we lose hope that we seek to find it."

Lynnette shared a verse with me that speaks to this so well, I just have to share it with you. "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." ~ Jeremiah 33:3

Enjoy your Sunday!

Showcase Crafts: Lollipop Baby Washcloths!

Another precious craft for baby and/or baby shower gift!

Lollipop Washcloths!

This adorable craft idea was inspired by Stephanie over at her
320 Days
of Sunshine blog. [clike HERE for instructions]

Sis and I created a set for my son's upcoming baby shower, and they turned out so sweet! Although since I used a garden pot, they look more like flowers than lollipops, but that's okay!

Happy Craftin'!

Showcase Cooking: Pumpkin Muffins

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

One of my favorite things about fall is all of the pumpkin flavored items! While perusing Pinterest one day, I came across a 2 ingredient pumpkin cake recipe from Big Red Kitchen.
pumpkin muffins

After reading through the various comments, I decided to add a few more items to the recipe.

Easy Pumpkin Muffins:
* 1 cake mix (I used Duncan Hines Classic Yellow)
* 1 15oz can of 100% Pumpkin Puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
* 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
* 1/2 tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice
* 1 tsp Cinnamon
* 1/2 tsp canola oil

* Preheat Oven to 350
* Line muffin tins with liners (makes 16 muffins)
* In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients using a hand mixer or stand mixer
* Beat on Medium for 2 minutes
* Spoon into muffin tins
* Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean
* Cool for 2 minutes, then remove from muffin tins to cool further
* Dust the tops with powdered sugar just before eating

These turned out so good, that I am ashamed to say, we ate a total of 3 a piece the day they were made!

Showcase Crafts: Coaster Candy Box Bouquet

Monday, October 24, 2011

Photobucket

Just in time for Halloween, it's a Candy Box Bouquet!

I've made these cute boxes before using cardboard coasters, adhering cut scrap-paper, punching out the corner holes & tying it together with ribbon.

And when my sis-in-law told me she needed a prize for best child's costume during her upcoming Halloween party, I took some inspiration from this candy bouquet over at the
Funky Polkadot Giraffe.

This was an easy, fun, and inexpensive project!

Happy Crafting!

Sunday Inspiration {10/23}

Sunday, October 23, 2011

Today's inspiration comes from
Clutter Free Christianity
by Robert Jeffress:

"“For truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.” (Matthew 17:20)

If we want to exercise the kind of faith that God desires, it’s important to understand what faith is…and what it’s not. Faith isn’t the ability to predict the outcome of future circumstances. At the same time, faith is not the complete absence of any doubt.
God isn’t concerned about the quantity of our faith. Jesus Himself observed that even faith the size of a mustard seed—one of the smallest seeds in the vegetable world—can produce great results.

The kind of faith that God desires from us doesn’t require us to rid ourselves of all uncertainty before we obey Him. All we need is just enough faith to act, and then we’ll enjoy the benefits of God’s promises.

Faith is believing that God will do what He has promised...and acting accordingly."

Enjoy your Sunday!

Pin Etiquette

Thursday, October 20, 2011

As I have mentioned before, I love Pinterest! The other day I cam across some very objectionable material which had me searching for the Pinterest Terms of Service. While visiting their help center, I came across the "Pin Etiquette" page. This in turn inspired me to create the little Pin Etiquette sign below.
This is one item I will be pinning! :)

Through the Lens

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

While at Cheryl's house this last weekend, my 14 year old daughter mentioned she was bored. Since Cheryl and I were busy crafting (something she did not want to partake in), I handed her my camera and told her to take some pictures of the fall leaves. She ended up taking 41 pictures and had fun doing it!

She let one of the huge grasshoppers walk all over her hand. *eek!* When she came back inside the house I made sure her hands were fully sanitized before she touched anything else. :)

Showcase Crafts: Baby Cradle

Monday, October 17, 2011

Photobucket

Sis and I got together over the weekend and created a couple of items for my son's upcoming baby shower.

This creation was inspired by the Cradle Full of Love from the July issue of Woman's World Magazine.

Supplies needed:

*Large (42 oz.) cylindrical oatmeal box with plastic lid
*2 (9x12) sheets of felt

*glue gun & low-temp hot glue
*12" square sheet of decorative paper

*Ribbon

*4 craft sticks

*Acrylic Paint

*8" foam disk

*assorted decorations (I used 5" foam flowers)

*baby items

Instructions:

*Cut away just under half of the oatmeal box's side, leaving a 1/2" border at each end.

*Using the plastic lid as a guide, cut 2 felt circles. Hot-glue lid back on and glue the felt circles to it & to box's other end. Cover box sides with decorative paper, folding it over the cut edges; glue. Glue ribbon around box at both ends.

*Glue painted craft sticks into two "X" shapes. Cut two 2 1/2" slices off foam disk for rockers; trim off about 1/4" from curved side for stability. Cover both sides of rockers with felt & glue ribbon around their edges. Referring to photo, blue craft sticks to rockers and to box at both ends.

*Decorate cradle ends and fill!

Sunday Inspiration {10/16}

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Over a year ago, I read the book DragonLight, by Donita K. Paul. A conversation about truth between two of the characters struck a chord with me.
"He has always given us reason to draw near, always fed us truth through word and deed. Yet we, His people, continue to harbor false expectations, trading a glorious reality for a shabby imitation of truth."

Sometimes our faith finds itself in a compromising position. Sometimes enough facts can be mixed with fiction and the truth becomes clouded.

For example, once, while on vacation, we went to see the Titanic museum. One of the other tourists asked the guide about Rose - the character from the movie. The guide gently told the tourist that Rose was only made up. See, when truth is mixed with a little lie, the person hearing or seeing it believes it all to be true.

We must be mindful to not trade truth for a lie. The Bible instructs us to read the word and interpret it ourselves. We are not to rely on someone else to give us the information. We are to experience God first hand, for then we will know the Truth.

Showcase Cooking: Monster Cake!

Thursday, October 6, 2011

Isn't this the cutest?!

I'm not one for going crazy with Halloween decorations, or hosting a big party, but when I come across something as cute as this, I just have to share!

Here's how to recreate it [compliments of BettyCrocker.com]:

1 box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® chocolate fudge cake mix
Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box
1 container Betty Crocker® Rich & Creamy creamy white frosting
Black food color
Neon green food color
Betty Crocker® black decorating icing (from 4.25-oz tube)
2 pieces black string licorice (5 to 6 inch)

1. Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Make and bake cake as directed on box for 13x9-inch pan. Cool 10 minutes. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen cake; remove from pan to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 1 hour.

2. Place cake, bottom side up, on large platter or foil-covered cookie sheet. Remove 2 tablespoons of white frosting from container; set aside. Remove one-third of the frosting (about 1/2 cup) to small bowl. Tint black; set aside. Tint remaining frosting neon green. Frost sides and top of cake with neon green frosting.

3. Using picture as a guide, use decorating icing with a round tip to outline hair. Add licorice pieces for eyebrows. Use reserved white frosting to form eyes. Use icing to outline remaining facial features. Spread black frosting within the outlines to fill in the hair. Store loosely covered.

Makes 12 servings

Time to come up with costume ideas!

Are you the type of shopper who likes to buy your costume early, before all of the good ones are picked-over?

It's the only time of the year where we get to play adult-dress-up and pretend to be someone else!

Whether you're in need of a child's costume,

...or a teen costume...

...or one for an adult...

here's some websites we found with not only affordable costumes, and some offer free shipping as well!

*Target.com

*Walmart.com

*HalloweenCostumeDepot.com

*BuyCostumes.com

*PartyCity.com

*CostumeExpress.com

October: Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Saturday, October 1, 2011

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Did you know that Breast Cancer is the leading type of cancer in women
(except for skin cancers), and that the odds are less than 1 in 8 of developing it in a woman's lifetime? However, due to improvements in treatment and early detection, many women are surviving today!
[according to the American Cancer Society]

I believe that cancer has touched all of our lives...whether it be you personally who's been diagnosed, or you have a family member or friend who has.

Tips for early detection:

#1)
If you are a woman near the age of 40, you should talk to your doctor
about scheduling a
mammogram.

#2)
Do a monthly-self-breast exam. Click to sign-up for a monthly reminder.

And here's some ways you can help:

#3) Visit Susan G. Komen For The Cure for information on how to make a difference.

#4) Join Save Lids to Save Lives. For every Yoplait Pink Lid you send by 12/31/2011, Yoplait will donate 10 cents to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

#5) Click [here] every day to help fund mammograms at thebreastcancersite.com

#6) For more information on early detection, myths & facts, community discussions, donating, fund-raising and volunteering, please visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
